
Lionrock's circulation is rather broad. Under the combined effect with the northeast monsoon, strong to gale force winds prevail over Hong Kong, with occasional storm force winds on the high ground over the southwestern part of Hong Kong. Lionrock is expected to remain at a distance of about 500 to 600 kilometres from Hong Kong in the next few hours. The Gale or Storm Signal, No. 8 is expected to remain in force for some time this morning.
Storm surge induced by Lionrock and heavy rain may lead to flooding in low-lying areas. Members of the public should take precautions against strong winds and flooding. Besides, Lionrock will bring squalls. Seas will be rough with swells. Members of the public should stay away from the shoreline, and not to engage in water sports.
In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Ngong Ping, Cheung Chau and Waglan Island were 102, 82 and 75 kilometres per hour with maximum gusts 130, 93 and 87 kilometres per hour respectively.
